Laguna Niguel, CA, October 14, 2010 – Interface has completed the initial phase of a three-phase facility expansion plan that includes a newly renovated and expanded equipment assembly operation, a new expanded extruded balloon tubing clean room and a balloon production clean room expansion.
The equipment assembly area expansion is a new dedicated space which was completed in July. In addition to the new and expanded space, Interface has implemented lean manufacturing principles into the layout to drive improvements in manufacturing efficiency. These improvements will increase capacity and reduce lead times for all equipment products.
The next phase of the expansion is planned for completion in November and includes construction of a new extruded balloon tubing clean room. This new clean room includes the addition of a new micro-extruder which will double production capacity and reduce lead times.
The advancements achieved in our extruded balloon tubing process over the last four years have resulted in significant improvements in balloon production yields in our own manufacturing area, as well as for our customers that have converted to Interface extruded balloon tubing.
The last expansion project scheduled to be completed by January 2011 will be the construction of an additional balloon production clean room which will increase balloon production capacity for 2011 and beyond.
Interface acquired additional manufacturing space in a new facility adjacent to our two current facilities in Laguna Niguel in July 2010. The new manufacturing space allowed for all employees to move to the larger Laguna Niguel campus after vacating an existing facility in Irvine CA. The move to the new facility provided the capacity to initiate the three-phase expansion plan.
